Video consultation: when it works and when it doesn't
Telemedicine solves many consultations without leaving where you are, but not everything can be assessed by video. Here is how to decide.
When a video consultation is a good option
- Everyday problems without warning signs.
- Check-ups and follow-up of an already diagnosed condition.
- Reviewing test results and answering questions about a treatment.
- Medical guidance when you are traveling or outside Santiago: the video consultation works from anywhere in Chile, you only need internet and a device with a camera.
If the professional indicates it after the assessment, you can receive an electronic prescription and, if appropriate, a digital medical leave certificate. A receipt is provided.
When an in-person visit is better
When the patient needs to be examined in person, tests need to be taken, or the person cannot get up or travel. In the Santiago Metropolitan Region you can book a home doctor visit. During the video consultation, the professional tells you whether you need in-person care.
When NOT to use a video consultation
Severe chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, signs of a stroke, heavy bleeding or another risk to life: call 131 (SAMU) or go to the emergency room. Do not wait for a video consultation.
Hours, prices and coverage
- Hours: every day from 8:00 to 24:00, including weekends and public holidays.
- Price: CLP $35,000 (8:00 to 20:00) or CLP $50,000 (20:00 to 24:00).
- Coverage: all of Chile.
